The Algerian state-owned company Sonatrach announced on Monday an “important discovery of an important deposit of condensed natural gas in the Hassi R’Mel region, in the wilaya of El Bayadh, in the Sahara desert.

“Sonatrach announces today that it has discovered significant hydrocarbon potential in the Lias Carbonaté -LD2- deposit at the level of the Hassi R’Mel operating perimeter”, Sonatrach said.

“The preliminary evaluation has yielded a potential volume that varies between 100,000 and 340,000 million cubic meters of gas condensate,” the Algerian state company has clarified. “These volumes constitute one of the largest revaluations of reserves in the last 20 years,” he stressed.

Sonatrach has explained that it is already working on confirming the estimated volumes and has estimated that, with this deposit, a production of about 10 million cubic meters per day could be achieved from November 2022.
