The agreement reached with the family of the deceased cinematographer of the feature film ‘Rust’ also stipulates that the lawsuit against the actor be withdrawn. However, the New Mexico State Attorney’s Office indicated that the pact is invalid if the actor is found to be responsible for criminal charges.
The American actor Alec Baldwin announced through his social networks that both he and the producers of the film ‘Rust’ reached an agreement with the family of Halyna Hutchins, the director of photography who died after an accidental shot by Baldwin in the shooting set on October 21, 2021.
The agreement contemplates that the filming of the feature film be resumed from January and also that the lawsuit against the actor be withdrawn. This, in exchange for Matthew Hutchins, Halyna’s widower, being the executive producer of the film, with which he will receive a part of the profits.
Baldwin’s post is accompanied by the message “Throughout this difficult process, everyone has held a specific desire to do what’s best for Halyna’s son. We thank everyone who contributed to the resolution of this tragic and painful situation.” “.
The agreement reached by the parties is still subject to approval by the court that advances the process. This was explained by the actor’s lawyers.
In a statement, Hutchins’ husband said, “I have no interest in engaging in recrimination, attribution or blame with the producers or Mr. Baldwin. We all believe that Halyna’s death was a terrible accident.”
Baldwin could face criminal charges in Hutchins’ death
Last month, the New Mexico state attorney reported that Baldwin and other members of the “Rust” production could face criminal charges for what happened. Investigators have focused their investigations on determining who handled the gun with which Baldwin fired.
After learning of the agreement on Wednesday, the office of the prosecutor Mary Carmack-Altwies indicated in a statement that the agreement does not change the criminal charges that those involved could face.
“If the facts and evidence justify criminal charges under New Mexico law, then charges will be filed. No one is above the law,” the document details.
The lawsuit against him, and against other members of the production team, was filed last February and, in it, the team of lawyers claimed that there were significant violations of industry safety standards.
The Hutchins family’s attorney, Brian Panish, assured on that occasion that Baldwin had a fundamental responsibility in the murder because he should have verified that the weapon did not have real bullets. Furthermore, he stated that he should not have aimed it directly at a person and should not have pulled the trigger.
Production on the low-budget film was taking place at Bonanza Creek Ranch, just outside the town of Santa Fe, New Mexico. The events occurred when Baldwin was rehearsing a scene in which she fired a revolver loaded with live ammunition that hit the Ukrainian filmmaker and director Joel Souza, who survived.
