BRUSSELS, Nov. 18 () –
Albania has officially entered the Civil Protection Mechanism of the European Union this Friday, the instrument with which the Twenty-seven cooperate with each other to help in the face of humanitarian crises and natural disasters.
The step has been officially taken with the signing of the agreement between the Albanian authorities and the European Commission on the occasion of the trip of the Community Crisis Management Officer, Janez Lenarcic, to Tirana.
From now on, Albania will be able to offer emergency support to countries that are hit by natural disasters that exceed their capacity for action, through an instrument that seeks a more solid and coordinated response to crises in Europe and its neighbourhood. Albania is from today a member of the mechanism but had already received help through it, especially after the serious earthquake that shook the country in November 2019.
Apart from the EU Member States, eight other third countries participate in this instrument to improve prevention, preparedness and response to disasters. This is the case of Iceland, Norway, Serbia, North Macedonia, Montenegro, Turkey and Bosnia and Herzegovina, apart from Albania that is now entering.
