Al Qaeda publishes a proof of life of a UN worker kidnapped in February 2022 in Yemen

June 13 (EUROPA PRESS) –

The terrorist organization Al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP) has published a new video as proof of life of a Bangladeshi United Nations employee kidnapped in February 2022 in Yemen along with five other workers of the international organization.

The man who appears in the video, picked up by SITE Intelligence, an organization specialized in monitoring terrorist groups, is Akam Sofiol Anam, head of United Nations security coordination in the Asian country.

Anam, kidnapped in the province of Abyan (south), already appeared in a video published by AQAP in September 2022. The group has increased its attacks in an attempt to expand its area of influence in southern Yemen as a result of the war Open in the country since 2015.

The country has been experiencing a period of relative calm in recent months as a result of the impetus given to the political process to try to reach a peace agreement between the internationally recognized government and the Houthi rebels, after Saudi Arabia and Iran — which support factions faced in the war — will agree in March to restore their diplomatic relations.
