Syrian President Bashar al Assad will attend the Arab League summit to be held on Friday in the city of Jeddah after being invited by the King of Saudi Arabia, Salman bin Abdulaziz, and readmitted to the organization.
The Syrian Foreign Minister, Faisal Mikdad, has confirmed Al Assad’s attendance at the summit after meeting on Wednesday with his Saudi counterpart, Faisal bin Farhan, a meeting in which they discussed the process of opening diplomatic missions in both countries. .
“The leaders of Syria and Saudi Arabia have decided to go forward and there is no turning back (in the normalization of relations),” he said. Later, Mikdad attended a preparation meeting prior to the summit with foreign ministers from the different Arab countries that make up the Arab League.

The Syrian government ended more than a decade of isolation in the Arab League on Monday by participating in another preparatory session for the summit on May 19, a week after being readmitted to the organization.
