Why has Airbnb banned parties from its listings?

The platform mentions that in 2021 they suspended 6,600 guests for violating the temporary ban on parties. This is because, as a result of the pandemic and given that many restaurants, bars, and meeting places were forced to close, they noticed that many users were renting accommodation to hold clandestine parties.

“This concerned us both because of the nature of unauthorized parties and the risk of such gatherings spreading the virus,” the official statement mentions. Over time, the ban became much more than a public health measure, but a critical community policy to support hosts and neighbors.

They mention that the ban was received positively by hosts and neighbors, since since it was implemented in August 2020, party reports have dropped by 44%.
