The commercial aviation sector has recovered rapidly, and Colombia is a clear example of overcoming the pandemic and rising to steady growth in the industry.

Proof of this are the domestic operation figures, which reflect significant growth not only with pre-pandemic periods, even according to data from the Civil Aeronautics, passenger traffic in the first half of the year, It was the highest recorded in five years.

In this 2022, 15,848,687 travelers have been mobilized in the country from the different airports of Colombia, a figure 16% higher than in 2019, where they were transported 12,566,951 people. Compared to 2021, the figure is 26.1% more than in the pre-pandemic.

In this regard, the number of mid-year vacations stands out, where in June mobilized 2,607,815 people, 14.6% more than in 2019, where the figure was 2,275,485. The airports with the highest mobility were: Bogotá, with 16,374,033 passengers, Rionegro with 5,906,394, Cali with 3,486,856 and Cartagena with 3,461,636 passengers.

The different subsectors have highlighted that despite the fact that the country is going through different economic adversities that affect the pocket, there is more desire to resume travel slopes and the sector continues to rise.

“These record figures show the enormous effort that, with facts and as a team, the national government has been making to strengthen air transport, as a fundamental engine of momentum for other sectors as important in our economy as tourism and trade,” he also said. the Minister of Transport, Ángela María Orozco.
At the international level, a sector that was so far behind is beginning to heal exponentially, and in this first quarter it reached a 99% recovery compared to pre-pandemic figures.

In the period January – June 2019, 6,983,021 people were mobilized internationally, and the 2022 figures closed very closely with 6,834,488 travelers.
An important dynamic is that although the data continues to be lower than in 2019, as of April, the number of internationally mobilized passengers was higher in 2022, factors explained by the industry, especially by tourism (1,441,417 million departures). registered in the first quarter of the year), especially in the month of June (327,701 departures of Colombians).

FREIGHT TRANSPORT

Regarding air cargo transport, during the first six months of 2022, the civil aeronautics registered that they transported a total of 454,032 tons, of which 73,053 correspond to national cargo and 380,980 to international, which represents a year-over-year growth of 12.7%.

And it was not only on a semi-annual basis, during the month of June there was an increase of 11.3% of the total cargo moved, going from 64,052 tons to 71,266 tons, however, the month in which there was a greater rebound was April with a total of 85,453 tons of cargo transported.
