Adriatic Gate Container Terminal (AGCT), International Container Terminal Services, Inc.’s (ICTSI) operation at the port of Rijeka in Croatia, has recently achieved two more milestones by managing record monthly throughput and the largest single-vessel exchange.
AGCT’s new highest monthly performance exceeds the previous record, set in July 2024, by 11%. This underlines AGCT’s growing capacity and its key role as Croatia’s largest seaport and regional supply chain facilitator for the Balkans and Central Europe.
«We are satisfied with the teamwork and efforts of our staff to achieve this new milestone. I’m sure we’ll have a few more to come. The result is even more satisfactory if we take into account that, with the 100-meter deepening project, we were left with only one berth,” declared Emmanuel Papagiannakis, General Director of AGCT.
ICTSI’s investment will substantially reduce the environmental impact of maritime transport
The AGCT terminal announced the reactivation of two berths, after completing an important project in October. This will allow service levels to be optimized at the terminal, consolidating it as a strategic point in the Adriatic region. An AGCT spokesperson said: “We are now returning to operating with two berths once the project is completed in October, which will improve service levels at the terminal.” This advance represents a milestone in the management capacity and efficiency of the port terminal.
In a context of growth, AGCT established a new record for the exchange of individual vessels, with 7,120 TEU moved during the vessel’s call Maersk Huacho. This vessel is part of the 2M Alliance service, a collaboration between Maersk and Mediterranean Shipping Company, which directly connects the main ports of China and other points in the Far East with the Adriatic region. This achievement demonstrates AGCT’s key role in the international maritime transport network.
AGCT’s new highest monthly performance exceeds the previous record, set in July 2024, by 11%
In the same month, AGCT reached a historical maximum within the Ocean Alliance, made up of companies such as CMA CGM, COSCO, Evergreen and OOCL, managing to handle 3,193 TEU. These results not only highlight the level of activity at the terminal, but also the capacity for strategic cooperation with the world’s main shipping alliances, strengthening its position as an essential node in global trade.
Rail traffic on AGCT showed clear signs of recovery after the Red Sea crisis at the beginning of the year, reaching a share of more than 41% of total traffic. This increase underlines the importance of rail as an efficient and sustainable logistics alternative, helping to diversify transportation options and reduce dependence on traditional land routes.
