( ) –– Andrés García, a renowned actor in Mexico of Dominican origin, died at the age of 81, confirmed this Tuesday Margarita Portillo, the artist’s wife. Garcia was known for a vast career in film and television and notable roles as a leading man on Mexican soap operas.
Previously, the National Association of Actors (Anda) had mourned the death of García (1941-2023) via Twitter. “The National Association of Actors deeply regrets the death of our partner Andrés García. Our condolences to his family, friends and colleagues. Rest in Peace,” the organization wrote.
For its part, the National Association of Interpreters of Mexico regretted the death of García, interpreter partner of the entity, through a message on Twitter: “Actor with a great career in theater, film and television. He is remembered for his iconic role as “Pedro Navaja” in the film of the same name. We send our condolences to family and friends.”
Garcia, who was born on May 24, 1941, is survived by his wife and their children Andrea, Leonardo and Andrés Jr.
The actor’s wife had given details about Garcia’s state of health on Saturday in a video posted on Garcia’s official YouTube channel.
Portillo assured that García’s hemoglobin was very low, that his liver function was not stable and that the actor needed a blood transfusion.
García himself told the De Primera Mano program in July 2022 that he suffered from cirrhosis, that he had problems walking and that he had lost his immediate memory.
