Activision highlights role of text and voice moderation in reducing toxicity in Call of Duty chats

Oct. 11 (Portaltic/EP) –

Activision has highlighted the success of the text and voice moderation systems implemented in the Call of Duty franchisewhich have helped reduce toxicity in chats and will be present from the first day of the new installment, Black Ops 6.

The moderation system powered by artificial intelligence ToxMod, developed by Modulate, was added to the Call of Duty franchise last year with the release of Modern Warfare III, to reduce players’ exposure to toxic conversations.

ToxMod acts in real time to identify and take action against those users who have a inappropriate behavior in voice chatsfor using discriminatory language, harassing other players or promoting hate speech.

After its implementation, Activision has verified that exposure to toxic voice chats has been reduced, which has decreased by 43 percent since January 2024. In June, an improvement to the system was also implemented that has seen a combined 67 percent reduction in repeat violations related to voice chat in Modern Warfare III and Call of Duty: Warzone.

ToxMod will be present in Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 on day one (October 25) in English, Spanish and Portugueseand will expand it to French and Germanas Activision has reported in a update of their moderation systems.

This new game in the franchise will also feature text-based moderation of in-game chats, which was first introduced in Modern Warfare (2019) by Community Sift, and which is currently supports 20 languages, including Spanish. Black Ops 6 will also apply the analysis for username reports.

Activision has indicated that the moderation system also analyzes text chat traffic in near real time, blocking more than 45 million text messages that violate the Call of Duty Code of Conduct since November 2023

“Call of Duty’s voice and text-based moderation tools do not target our competitive spirit, but are instead enforced against behavior identified in the Call of Duty Franchise Code of Conduct, which targets harassment and derogatory language”the developer has clarified.
