May 24. (Portaltic/EP) –
Activision has requested the end of operations of two Call of Duty fan labs or projects that were working to maintain franchise titles, adding new features and security fixes.
For extend life ‘online’ of video games once the studies end their support, some fans get together to create projects in which ‘mods’ are implemented, that is, extensions of the ‘software’ that modify the original content of these titles.
Franchises such as Call of Duty have this type of association, which is responsible for providing new content and features to both the game and its characters, as well as patches in case of security breaches.
All this allows players to continue enjoying these video games once the official developers have finished their work with the oldest games to dedicate himself to creating other video games.
One of these projects is X Labs, which claims to have received a letter from Activision Publishing in which the developer has communicated its cease and desist, as reported by this group via Twitter.
In this social network, those responsible have indicated that they are complying with what is ruled by Activision and “shutting down all operations permanently”, and they have thanked all users for the support received during their years in operation.
As you remember from puter, this project would have made considerable contributions to the franchise fan community with open source mod projects for Modern Warfare 2, Call of Duty: Black Ops III and Ghosts.
The developer has announced the termination of X Labs just a few days after sending an identical notification to sm2 project, another similar project tasked with modifying Modern Warfarer 2 with new in-game progression systems and a redesigned user interface.
It was last Wednesday, May 17, when he also indicated through Twitter that he was giving up on his operations and that he was “permanently closing” after receiving notification from Activision Publishing.
