Nov. 1 () –
A consortium participated by Acciona has been awarded a contract in New Zealand to develop the Auckland transport system, a project that initially had an estimated budget of 700 million New Zealand dollars (410 million euros).
The work involves, among other actions, the construction of new exclusive lanes for buses and bicycles, which will contribute to shortening travel times in the city by around 20 minutes and limiting motorized traffic, thus allowing the reduction of polluting emissions.
In addition, the contract also includes the preliminary investigation, design and construction of a new bus station in Pakuranga, a district located to the east of Auckland. For the moment, the Government of New Zealand has announced a financial contribution of 281 million dollars (165 million euros) to the project.
As reported by the public company in charge of transport in Auckland, in addition to Acciona, the consortium designated to design and plan this new transport system will also be made up of Fletcher, Aecom and Jacobs.
In this way, the Spanish company repeats its alliance with Fletcher after in 2016 both were awarded the construction and management contract for 25 years under the public-private partnership (PPP) formula for the highway between Puhoi and Warkworth, north of Auckland, which was Acciona’s first project in New Zealand.
Acciona landed in Australia in 2002 and is currently one of the main players in the infrastructure market in Oceania, where Acciona Energy, its independent business division focused on renewables, has also closed long-term energy sales contracts.
