Abbas warns that a "just peace" with Israel is far away as long as they continue with their occupation policies

He denounces that none of the almost 1,000 resolutions adopted within the UN framework have been applied

Sep. 23 (EUROPA PRESS) –

The president of the Palestinian Authority, Mahmoud Abbas, lamented before the 77th session of the United Nations General Assembly that “the possibility of achieving a just peace based on International Law is diminishing” and has blamed “the Israel’s occupation policies.

Abbas has denounced that Israel’s policies, “in a deliberate way, destroy the possibility of a two-state solution” and that “this shows that it does not believe in peace, but in the imposition of the ‘status quo’ through the strength”.

“We no longer have an Israeli partner with whom we can talk. The relationship is reduced to that between an occupying power and an occupied population,” lamented Abbas, who asked at the General Assembly if the UN is willing to end “with little hope” of the Palestinian people.

In this sense, he has accused Israel of launching a “frantic campaign” to confiscate the Palestinian territories, as well as the settlements, which they force to demolish, without forgetting the “plundering” of the resources.

Israel has not left us any territory to establish our independent state due to its frantic policy of expansion. Where can we build our State to live in peace with our neighbors? We want to live in peace, but where?, the Palestinian leader has asked himself.

“Israel is murdering our population with impunity (…) “Israel gives total freedom to the terrorist settlers who murder Palestinians in broad daylight,” Abbas denounced, mentioning the name of the Palestinian journalist Shirín abu Aklé, a reporter Al Jazeera killed under Israeli fire in the midst of clashes on May 11 in the West Bank.

“The journalist Shirín abu Aklé was killed by a sniper. It is a deliberate act that Israel has recognized. She also had an American nationality, for which I urge the United States to prosecute those responsible for the death of this American citizen, but not they are going to do. Why? Because they are Israelis,” he deplored.

BLAME THE UN FOR LOOKING THE OTHER SIDE

Abbas has also denounced that Israel “is prohibiting the Palestinian citizens of Jerusalem from participating in the elections”, and has blamed them for blocking the possibility of holding the next elections. “When someone tells Israel that it has to allow elections, we will do it,” he has ironized.

The leader of the Palestinian Authority has monopolized his speech before the United Nations with the aggressions that his people have to face on the part of an Israeli Government whose “racist policies” have established an “apartheid regime” with “total impunity”. in the eyes of the international community.

“Why are they not held accountable? Who protects Israel? Do you know who allows Israel not to be held accountable? The UN and within the UN, the most powerful. Why don’t they treat us equally?” , has protested.

Abbas has called on the international community to take action on the matter and hold Israel accountable for “the massacres” committed. “We will go to the International Criminal Court, yes, and to all the courts in the world.”

“We are the only people on this planet that continues to live in a situation of occupation. Why? You in the General Assembly, the members of the Security Council, those who defend Human Rights, why do we have to continue to suffer from this occupation? What are we waiting for?” he insisted.

“The UN in its different organs has adopted hundreds of resolutions on Palestine. Not a single one has been applied. Is it possible that this is the case? Not a single resolution of the 754 of the General Assembly, of the 97 of the Security Council and of the the 96 of the Human Rights Council. Not one, “he stressed.

Abbas concluded his speech as he began it, demanding from the international community solutions to the “violations” that are being committed against the Palestinian people and thanking the “martyrs” who have lost their lives or freedom for defending the rights of everybody. “We will not abandon them,” he has said.
