A WWII bomb located next to a Tesla factory near Berlin (Germany) was detonated in a controlled manner.

German authorities on Wednesday detonated a controlled bomb from World War II found near the Tesla factory in the town of Grunheide, near the capital, Berlin.

Following the completion of the work, authorities have lifted an exclusion zone in the area, allowing a group of activists who have set up camp in a forest in the area to protest against the planned expansion of the factory to return to their camp.

Tesla said the work had no impact on production, while buses and trains at the nearby Fangschleuse station are expected to resume regular service soon.

The bomb, which weighed about 250 kilos, was found in an area located in the area of ​​the planned expansion of the electric car factory. According to municipal sources, the bomb could not be transported and had to be detonated ‘on site’ in a controlled manner.

Such finds are relatively common in Germany, especially in industrialized cities that were prominent targets of bombing during the war, when an estimated 1.5 million tons of bombs were dropped, 15 percent of which failed to explode due to technical problems and became embedded in the ground.
