A mysterious version of Windows 11 has been leaked that many are calling Windows 11 “Government Edition” and it practically does away with any program or add-on that Microsoft usually preinstalls on its operating system.
The only thing that comes pre-installed is the file explorer, the settings menu, backups and some specific tools. Nothing else comes pre-installed, not even the Edge browser, Windows Defender antivirus, Camera, Media Player, or the Microsoft Store. We don’t even have Paint. Naturally, all telemetry and data collection systems for remote diagnosis are completely absent. The start menu also appears completely empty.
The main advantage is that It only consumes 1.2 GB of RAM, four times less than a basic installation of Windows 11. In fact, it seems that it can be installed on more modest computers that do not meet the requirements that Microsoft asks to install conventional Windows 11.
However, it seems that this is not a specific version created by Microsoft, much less for any government, but rather it is a version of Windows 11 that some users or enthusiasts have modified to leave it like this. In fact, it appears to integrate an unofficial activation system that seeks to bypass Microsoft’s licensing system.
In fact, it is only available from unofficial sources, so it is not recommended to install it for obvious security reasons.
