A Venezuelan woman gave voice to one of the characters in the film Inside Out 2

Behind the success of the animated film Inside Out 2 There are many people, including those voice actors who had the task of bringing the film’s dialogue into other languages, such as the case of Venezuelan Lilimar Hernández, one of the voice actresses who collaborated on the Pixar film.

Inside Out 2 tells the continuing story of a girl named Riley, who enters adolescence and must deal with old and new emotions. The film has received excellent reviews and is, so far, the highest-grossing film of the year, according to Disney.

In this animated film, Venezuelan Lilimar Hernández, 24, is in charge of dubbing into Spanish the voice of a character named Valentina, a hockey player, who is also the most popular girl in high school and is admired by Riley (the protagonist) and her classmates.

“When I was chosen for the project I was very surprised, but I was extremely happy and grateful. I don’t think it felt real until I was on a plane traveling to Pixar studios,” said the Venezuelan in an interview for the Voice of America.

His arrival at Inside Out 2

Lilimar Hernández has accumulated several jobs as a voice actress during her career. However, Inside Out 2 It is one of the most important so far. Remember that she came to the project after being invited to audition for a Pixar film, at that time they did not give her any more details.

“It’s a very big project, so they kept the details a bit secret. I did the best I could when I recorded my audition for “Val” and weeks later when I had already forgotten about it, my agent called me with the good news and the surprise that the project was Inside Out 2”.

The Venezuelan worked on dubbing her character in 3-4 sessions in 2023. About her character, she highlights that it has similarities with her personality, so she had the opportunity to use her real voice, without having to make major changes in her pronunciation and tone.

“It was really fun. The most important thing was for Val to sound confident, effortlessly cool, but also very warm and welcoming at the same time. I think we’re all really tired of the ‘popular bad girl’ type and we wanted to honour the girls around us in our childhood who inspired us, who were always ready to help others and who are great leaders,” she details.

Regarding the plot of the film, the Venezuelan highlights the importance of bringing to the big screen these kinds of stories, which inspire, teach new perspectives and help other people to be more empathetic. “These films are extremely necessary.

I firmly believe that art should always convey a message that the audience can take with them after leaving the cinema.”

She admits that she is surprised by the success of the film in cinemas around the world. She adds that she tries to regularly check the public’s comments, which are usually very positive.

His career and future projects

Lilimar Hernández has a long career as an actress. She says that at the age of 10 she already knew she wanted to dedicate herself to acting, three years later she began working in Los Angeles, United States, where she acted in a series for Nickelodeon called “Bella and the Bulldogs”.

“It was really the moment that changed my life completely. It was the first door that opened that allowed me to continue persevering and growing in the industry,” he recalls.

The Venezuelan actress worked for 5 or 6 years at Nickelodeon, where she was the main character in two series. She then decided to move away from children’s comedies and began working on more films, such as Hubie Halloween with Adam Sandler and dark comedy and animation series.

In the midst of these works, he received advice from his manager to try out as a voice actress, so she decided to start preparing and participated in auditions.

After several years he got his first job in an animated series for children. DreamworksFor Lilimar Hernández, dubbing has given her the opportunity to work on large productions with experienced teams that have made the process easier.

She stresses that as a voice actress she has the responsibility to take care of her voice because it is her main work tool. “It takes time to really understand your voice, its limitations and what remedies are best to keep it healthy and strong during hours of voice acting.”

The Venezuelan, who is originally from Nueva Esparta, in the east of the country, is currently working on the third season of “Batwheels!”, a DC animated series for children that is available on MAX, Netflix, Hulu and other streaming services. She is also collaborating on other dubbing projects about which she cannot yet offer details.

Hernández confesses that she is very grateful to Venezuelans and that they are receptive to her work. She says that she feels honored to represent the country on the big screen and hopes to continue doing so. That is why -she says- she continues working and preparing until she achieves her goals and becomes a reference in acting.

“It’s lovely to hear all the stories and adventures lived in Venezuela and, fortunately, we still make Venezuelan food at home quite often. I will always be grateful to the Venezuelan people for being so welcoming and supportive, and it’s an honour that they trust me to represent Venezuela on the big screen,” she concludes.
