US Senator Angus King, who traveled to Ukraine over the weekend to meet President Volodimir Zelensky, has compared Russian head of state Vladimir Putin to Adolf Hitler and called for his arrest to prevent further deaths.

Speaking to CBS television, King recalled that if Hitler had been arrested for his involvement in the Rhineland crises in 1936 and the Sudetenland two years later, millions of lives could have been saved.

“Right now we know that Putin wants to take over Ukraine. He wants to rebuild the Soviet Union (…) And this is the moment where he can be stopped,” the US senator remarked.

“They, the Ukrainians, are fighting for us, for our values, and the help we offer them is not charity. It is personal interest,” King remarked, who has warned that the Donbas region presents a scenario reminiscent of that of the first World War.

At this point, King has opted to continue providing arms supplies to Ukraine, although he is aware, and he says that he transferred it to Zelenski, that if Ukrainian troops do not use said weapons properly, US aid will be suppressed.

King visited Ukraine over the weekend along with fellow Senator Jack Reed. Both met with Zelensky to address the situation at the front and evaluate the arms and economic supplies approved by Washington.
