ASUS surprised this month with the announcement of its portable console ASUS ROG Ally, a device that competes directly with the Steam Deck, but with specifications that should be superior in almost every aspect.
In its announcement, the Taiwanese company assured that the ROG Ally would arrive with a custom SoC with AMD Zen 4 architecture and RDNA 3 graphicsHowever, now the device has been leaked to the FCC, and we can see that it integrates a AMD Ryzen 7 7840U 8-core/16-thread 3.3GHz base frequency and 16 GB of RAM along with an integrated Radeon 780M GPU with RDNA 3 architecture.
This leaked model is a test unit not available for sale, so it may be an engineering model with this stock AMD APU, which ASUS will later modify for a custom one in collaboration with AMD, or that the “Custom” SoC is directly based on this Ryzen 7 7840U.
We will have to wait for ASUS to officially launch the console in the coming months to find out the final details of this processor.
The ASUS ROG Ally It will arrive with a 7-inch FullHD screen at 120 Hz with a weight and thickness less than the Steam Deck, in addition to having an 8-core Zen4 SoC + 12 RDNA 3 CUs as opposed to the 4-core Zen 2 SoC and 8 RDNA CUs 2 from the Valve console. Besides, it will run Windows 11 out of the box instead of the Linux distribution SteamOS.
