A ship with 572 immigrants arrives in Italy and the Government of Meloni will only attend to the vulnerable

The ship ‘Geo Barents’, of the organization ‘Doctors without Borders’, which currently has 572 immigrantsall of them rescued in the Mediterranean, entered the Italian port of Catania this Sunday for the port authorities to carry out the inspection that will determine who will be able to disembark in accordance with the new legislation imposed by the Government of Giorgia Meloni.

In this sense, Matteo Salvini, vice president and head of the Infrastructure and Transport portfolio, signed a decree that only vulnerable immigrants will be allowed to disembark. The rest must remain on board to be subsequently expelled from the country.

This is the second vessel subject to this new standard. The ‘Humanity 1’, from the NGO ‘SOS Humanity’, had 144 immigrants and 35 of them are still not disembarking. According to local media, the ship has been given the order to leave the port, however, the captain refuses to set sail for the Mediterranean, arguing that “it is his duty to complete the rescue of people in danger.”
