A seizure of cocaine leads to a new disagreement between Petro and Bukele

The presidents of Colombia and El Salvador, Gustavo Petro and Nayib Bukele, respectively, clashed this Tuesday once again through social networks, this time on account of a news story about a seizure of a shipment of cocaine.

It all began on Monday night, when the Salvadoran president tagged the Colombian president in a trill in which he informed that the Naval Force of his country had seized “an LPV 520 nautical miles from Bocana el Cordoncillo, Estero de Jaltepeque, with 3 crew members of Colombian nationality”.

“It is estimated that it contains approximately 1.2 tons of cocaine, valued at about 30 million dollars,” he added.

Bukele also reported that the event “becomes the furthest drug seizure from the coast in the history of El Salvador (963 kilometers)” and even disclosed the identity of the Colombians detained and attached photographs of both the suspects and the police. vessel and the seized drug.

Already on Tuesday, Petro also took to Twitter to highlight, without directly mentioning Bukele: “Another ton and a half of cocaine that falls near El Salvador, thanks to the intelligence and help of the Colombian Navy.”

It is the third time that the leaders have had a disagreement, through social networks. The president of El Salvador wrote to his Colombian counterpart almost three weeks ago that he “does not understand” the “obsession” with his country, after the Colombian president shared a tweet related to the investigation by New York prosecutors into alleged pacts between Salvadoran government officials and gang members.

The clash between the two leaders began at the beginning of the monthwhen the Colombian president said that the new prison in El Salvador, known as Terrorism Containment Center, is a “concentration camp that gives chills”, but that triggers “popularities”. Some statements that prompted Bukele toreply via Twitter: “results outweigh rhetoric.”
