March 24 () –
The Russian businessman Artem Uss has escaped this Wednesday from house arrest in Milan, two days after learning that an Italian court approved his extradition to the United States.
Uss, son of the governor of Krasnoyarsk, Alexander Uss, who was waiting to challenge the judges’ decision, has broken the electronic bracelet, according to the Italian news agency ANSA.
His arrest, which took place on Italian soil in October 2022, when the agents carried out a routine screening of passengers on a flight to Asia, was made at the request of the United States, where justice wants to try him for evading sanctions and money laundering.
Previously, US authorities had charged five Russian and two Venezuelan citizens with evading sanctions and money laundering. Among them is Uss, who was placed on the Russian government’s wanted list after his arrest in Italy.
For his part, the governor of Krasnoyarsk defended that it was a “politically motivated” case against his son, an idea that was seconded by other senior officials in the region.
