A recession or slowdown in the US will affect the Mexican economy

“If our neighbor slows down or falls into recession, it will be difficult for us to grow,” Jonathan Heath, deputy governor of Banxico, wrote on his Twitter account.

The Mexican economy, the second largest in Latin America, advanced 0.9% in the third quarter compared to the April-June period. For this year it is expected to expand by 2.4% and next year an expansion of 3.0% is anticipated.

President Andrés Manuel López Obrador is confident that the Mexican economy will grow 3.5% this year.

“Nobody thought that the growth of this would exceed 3%,” said the president, referring to analysts, financial institutions, rating agencies and international organizations. “I am thinking that we are going to grow from 3.2% to 3.5% this year,” he said.
