The Manhattan Solstice, better known as “Manhattanhenge”, is a phenomenon where the sun aligns with the streets of New York City. Thousands of travelers and inhabitants gather to take photos and videos of a memorable moment.
Thousands of tourists and residents of the city of New York looked moved at the beginning of this week and did not waste a second in the intention of immortalizing what is known as Manhattanhenge: the unique spectacle that the sun offers twice a year.
Positioned on 42nd Street in the city of Manhattan -the most popular and perhaps the most privileged angle to see this natural spectacle- this reporter from the voice of america Like everyone else, he enjoyed the moment when the magic happens, which is when the sunset aligns with the skyscrapers of Manhattan, whose architecture is based on a grid layout of the streets of the famous American city.
Similar scenes can be seen in other cities where skyscrapers are part of the urban architecture and long, straight streets, such as Chicago, in the US, and the cities of Montreal and Toronto, in Canada.
On Monday the 29th and Tuesday the 30th of this week, thousands of people got perfect photographs of the moment that cannot be seen until July.
Although this natural landscape can be seen in other cities in the US and Canada, these two days in the months of May and July in New York are highly anticipated.
The term “Manhattanhenge” came into use in 1997 and is due to astrophysicist Neil deGrasse Tyson. The next opportunities to see this natural scene will be on July 12 and 13, 2023.
