A police officer has been hospitalized with a serious prognosis after being attacked by a crowd after he shot and killed an off-duty man in Crotone, in the Calabria region of southern Italy, following an argument over an accident. light traffic.

The incident began early this Monday afternoon, when the police officer was driving on the outskirts of Crotona with a car that was out of service. Another vehicle, driven by Francesco Chimirri, a 47-year-old pizza maker, collided with him and broke a side mirror.

Chimirri did not stop, at which point the agent began a chase that ended inside Crotona, where Chimirri’s parents live. Then the occupants of both vehicles faced each other and came to blows. The police officer used his baton in the fight, but the other party continued to hit him, so he pulled out his service pistol and fired three times.

One of the bullets hit Chimirri, who died in an ambulance when he was transferred to the San Juan de Dios Hospital in Crotona. Meanwhile, the pizza maker’s father and other relatives continued to beat the agent with great violence. The policeman’s gun and several teeth were left on the ground.
