() – Two passengers and a pilot escaped unharmed from a small plane that was forced to land without landing gear after a mechanical failure at Newcastle airport, in New South Wales, Australia.
The plane, a Beach B-200 Super King, circled for hours burning fuel before making a “textbook” emergency landing, according to affiliate Nine News.
Images recorded how the plane approaches the runway without the landing gear activated, lands and skids along the runway until it comes to a stop.
The emergency vehicles were prepared and in the video you can see how they come to the aid of the plane.
Superintendent Wayne Humphrey of the New South Wales Police praised the 53-year-old pilot for making a successful landing, saying no one had been injured and the passengers had even been able to drive home, Nine reported. News.
“It was a great result, really well done by the driver,” Humphrey said. “I could hear it in the air, it seemed very calm to me.”
The plane had been circling the airport for several hours to burn fuel.
Those guiding the plane down in the control room burst into applause when they saw that it had landed safely, Humphrey said.
The plane was scheduled to make a 26-minute flight from Newcastle to Port Macquarie, about 400 kilometers north of Sydney.
