15 Apr. (EUROPE PRESS) –
A 44-year-old Palestinian prisoner, Jader Adnan, has already completed 70 consecutive days on a hunger strike, which has begun to affect his state of health.
The Palestinian Prisoners Society has alerted Adnan’s situation and has highlighted that it is the longest hunger strike of the six he has carried out so far, reports the Palestinian news agency WAFA.
Adnan, originally from Arrabé, in the Jenin district, in the northern West Bank, was arrested on February 5 and immediately went on hunger strike to protest what he considers an illegal detention.
The NGO Middle East Eye has denounced that Adnan is detained under the administrative detention regime. Israel’s administrative detention policy allows for the detention of Palestinians without charge or trial for renewable intervals, typically between three and six months, on the basis of undisclosed evidence that even the detainee’s lawyer cannot see.
On April 17, the Day of the Prisoners is celebrated, in which the 4,900 Palestinians who are currently imprisoned in Israeli prisons are remembered, of which 160 are minors, 31 are women and more than a thousand are imprisoned under the administrative detention regime.
