One of the North Korean soldiers fighting with Russian forces against Ukraine has been immolated exploding a grenade when he was going to be captured, as reported this Monday by the Special Operations Forces of the Ukrainian Army.
The apparent suicide of the Asian soldier is known shortly after the South Korean Intelligence services report that the Pyongyang regime has given instructions to its soldiers deployed in Russia to take their own lives in case of risk of capture by the enemy.
According to Ukrainian special forces, the North Korean soldier blew himself up after participating in a failed assault in which 17 other soldiers sent to Russia by Pyongyang fell dead under Ukrainian fire.
The soldier had survived and was found by Ukrainian special forces while clearing the area of enemy troops. The North Korean’s intention in detonating the grenade was also kill those who were going to arrest himbut no Ukrainian soldiers were injured.
According to the South Korean National Intelligence Service (NIS), 300 North Korean soldiers have lost their lives already in the Russian region of Kursk, where – according to estimates from kyiv, Seoul and Washington – some 11,000 North Korean soldiers are deployed to help Russian troops expel the Ukrainian units that control part of the region’s territory.
The president of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, recently put the number of North Koreans killed and wounded in these combats at 4,000, while the United States speaks of a thousand casualties in the Asian country’s contingent since its deployment to the Kursk front in November.
Zelensky also reported this weekend the capture of the first two North Korean prisoners of war.
