A lower court in the northern city of Kano has ordered Nigerian House Majority Leader Alhassan Doguwa to be remanded in custody for his alleged complicity in the murder of three people during the vote count. of the elections.

Kano police arrested Doguwa, a member of the government’s All Progressives Congress (APC), on Tuesday for allegedly being involved in a violent fight between members of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) and the APC that resulted in their deaths. of three people in Tudun Wada, in Kano.

Judge Ibrahim Yola has thus ordered preventive detention against the politician -accused of criminal conspiracy, culpable homicide or causing serious damage to urban furniture, among other crimes- until March 7, as reported by the newspaper ‘The Premium Times’ .

In addition to the three deaths, the campaign office of the opposition party was burned as part of the vote count during the presidential elections that finally gave the APC government candidate, Bola Tinubu, the winner.

Tinubu has prevailed over Atiku Abubakar, from the Popular Democratic Party (PDP) and Peter Obi, from the Labor Party (PL), being the most voted with a total of 8,794,726 ballots in an election marked by controversy over the complaints opposition leaders for alleged irregularities during the process.

The European electoral observation mission pointed out that there was a lack of transparency in the elections and pointed directly to the role of the Electoral Commission. Specifically, the document points out the lack of security at polling stations, as well as the shortage of new naira bills and fuel during election day.
