A new suspect was arrested in Argentina for the attempted assassination of Vice President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner.

The woman was arrested after information was found on the mobile phone of the partner of the alleged perpetrator of the attack, Fernando Sabag Montiel, according to local media such as La Nación and Clarín.

The investigations indicate that on the night of September 1, Sabag Montiel was the one who pulled the trigger at least once, but the weapon did not fire, despite the fact that it was loaded with five bullets.

The 35-year-old man is a Brazilian citizen and the photos published on his social networks, now deactivated, show that he would have tattoos with Nazi symbols on his arms and hands.

The suspect, whose name is Agustina Díaz, according to The Associated Press news agency, is the third to be arrested in the two weeks that the investigation has been taking and is accused of belonging to the criminal organization that planned the frustrated attack and would be a close friend of Brenda Uliarte, Sabag’s girlfriend.

An official who requested anonymity due to the confidentiality of the investigation commented that “with what we are learning so far, the role played by Brenda becomes more relevant.”

Uliarte kept Agustina Díaz’s phone under the name “love of my life” and was in contact with her before and after the attack and according to the authorities it was Díaz who helped Brenda escape.

The authorities are trying to reconstruct the case based on security recordings and mobile phone communications, in addition, they want to determine if days before there was a suspect near the president’s house.

The assassination attempt has caused a great stir in the politics of Argentina, which was already under strong tensions caused by the deep economic crisis and by the judicial processes that the vice president faces for alleged corruption during her government.
