A mountaineer has died this Wednesday morning after a fall of about 400 meters in the Ortles, one of the most important mountains in the eastern part of the Alps, in northern Italy, as reported by local authorities.
The accident took place around 5:30 a.m. near one of the shelters that climbers usually use to undertake the final ascent of Ortles, whose summit is more than 3,900 meters above sea level.
The emergency services activated a rescue device and were able to locate the mountaineer with a helicopter, although he had died on the spot, reports the Rai chain.
The Italian Alps have chained several tragedies in recent days – on Monday the body of a Spaniard was also located after a fall -, the most serious of them caused by the collapse of part of the Marmolada glacier, in the Dolomites.
The authorities maintain the provisional balance of fatalities at seven, although they continue to search for five missing persons, all of them of Italian nationality. This Wednesday, work with drones in the area has resumed.
