( Spanish) –– A driver who lost control of his vehicle for almost four blocks in the center of the city of Córdoba, Argentina, collided with several cars and left 15 injured this Thursday, near the intersection of Avenida Chacabuco and Boulevard Arturo Illia.
Municipal Security Secretary Ariel Aleksandroff confirmed to that 35 people were injured in the incident, 15 of whom were assisted by emergency services.
Two of them are in serious condition. One is a four-year-old boy, who remains hospitalized, and a 30-year-old woman, who has not yet been identified and is undergoing surgery in critical condition.
The driver of the vehicle is in good health and has been handed over to the judicial police, Aleksandroff added.
Emergency services continue to work in the area and the case is in the hands of prosecutor José Bringas, of the District 1 Investigation Prosecutor’s Office, Shift 6. The causes of the incident are still being investigated.
In this regard, Silvana Scarpino, secretary of the prosecutor’s office, described the accident as “a catastrophe” and said that “there are no precedents of a similar event” in the area, in a conversation with local media El Doce. In addition, she clarified that the driver was not under arrest.

The mayor of the city of Córdoba, Daniel Passerini, said: “Regarding the mechanics of the crash, the prosecutor’s office is already intervening. We have already been asked for images from the various reference points that the municipality has. Surely from that a reconstruction can be made and it will be possible to see what the mechanics were.”
Once the police operations were completed, traffic was resumed on Chacabuco Avenue, between Illia and Rosario streets in Santa Fe, according to reported the municipality of Córdoba in X.
