BRUSSELS Jan. 6 () –

Belgian security forces this morning arrested an individual armed with a knife who tried to enter the offices of the country’s outgoing prime minister, Alexander De Croo.

The head of the Belgian Government himself has confirmed the incident on his X social network account, in the midst of a turbulent period in Belgian politics due to the ongoing negotiations to form a government.

“I would like to sincerely thank the Military Police officers for the effectiveness they demonstrated this morning. The person armed with a knife was detained. I am relieved to know that no one was injured in the incident,” he said.

“The man has been arrested and we are closely monitoring the situation with the Police,” he added.

The Brussels Police, for its part, explained in a statement reported by the national media that the individual was arrested around 10:00 this morning, and that he had threatened the security personnel present at Wetstraat 16″, the office of De Croo.

The security forces managed to subdue the person responsible, “whose motives are not clear right now,” they added, without giving more details.
