A man arrested after trying to enter the Iranian Embassy in Denmark armed with a knife

A 32-year-old Iranian man was arrested this Friday after trying to enter the Iranian Embassy in Copenhagen, the capital of Denmark, armed with a knife, the Danish Police said in a statement.

The man, who was arrested by an employee of the Iranian Embassy when he entered the building with a knife in his hand, is accused of two cases of vandalism that are contemplated in the Penal Code for attacking a diplomatic institution, according to picked up the newspaper ‘Berlingske’.

The incident has meant that the Copenhagen Police and the Police Intelligence Service (PET) have reinforced the security of the Embassy. At the moment the reason for the man to enter the building armed is unknown.

After that, the Danish ambassador to Iran, Jesper Vahr, has been summoned to the Foreign Ministry to protest the lack of security for Iranian diplomats in Denmark, according to the Mehr news agency.

The protests over the death of the young Kurdish-Iranian Mahsa Amini after being arrested by the Moral Police in Tehran for not wearing the hijab or Islamic veil correctly have spread to European countries, including Denmark.

Amini was arrested on September 13 and died three days after falling into a coma after fainting in a detention center, amid allegations of torture and ill-treatment. This death has provoked a wave of indignation both in a part of Iranian society, and more unanimously at the international level, with numerous demonstrations inside and outside the country.
