Shenzhen residents and visitors watched live this week as a colossal dragon dressed in colored lights danced on their heads. This spectacular scene has been possible thanks to the coordinated movement of thousands of drones that, moving in formation, have started the Duanwu Festival in the aforementioned Chinese city.
As we can see in shared videos Per the Twitter account @TripInChina, the figure towered over Long Hua Gong Yuan Park in a nightscape dotted with skyscrapers and various architectural structures. The dragon, visible from almost any angle, glowed with shades of yellow, blue, and red as it streaked across the sky.
Flying dragons in the sky
This week’s drone show, pick up site in chinese sina.comhad been named as “Flying dragons in the sky”. And it has been a prominent element on the first day of this festival with strong cultural ties that is also celebrated by holding dragon boat races and eating zongzi (a typical dish made with rice).
Now this isn’t the first time we’ve seen a drone show in China. The Asian giant, home of DJI Technology, the world’s largest manufacturer of drones, has been perfecting this technological alternative to fireworks for years, which is gaining more and more followers. The performances, in general, are increasingly sophisticated and surprising.
In 2021, for example, just over 3,200 perfectly synchronized drones put on an extraordinary show in Shanghai. Throughout the performance they formed different three dimensional shapes in all cases, as was to be expected, of great size. From a DNA to the front of Asian brand Genesis cars (it was a Genesis show).
Now, we have not only seen the great movement capacity of the drones, but also the perfect combination of colors in the development of the show in complex figures such as dragons. Technological advances hand in hand with technical experience seem to guarantee us that shows with unmanned aerial vehicles will get better with the passage of time.
