A Farage candidate asks to vote for his conservative rival and denounces "racism and sexism"

The candidate of the far-right Reform party in the Erewash constituency, in central England, Liam Booth-Isherwood, announced this Sunday that supports his rival from the Conservative Party for feeling uncomfortable “racism and sexism” in the ranks of the formation.

Booth-Isherwood has pointed to a “important moral problem” in part of the party he leads Nigel Farage because of the “information about widespread racism and sexism” that makes him not want to be identified with him, according to the British network BBC.

“In recent weeks” Booth-Isherwood has become “increasingly disillusioned with the behaviour and conduct of Reform”. “I have campaigned with many decent, honest and hard-working people for the general election in Erewash, but reports of widespread racism and sexism in Reform have exposed a important moral problem with certain elements of the party and the passivity of the party leadership, which does not take it seriously and does nothing, has made it clear to me that I no longer want to be associated with it,” he explained.

His name will continue to appear on the ballot under the Reforma candidacy.

Meanwhile, Farage has played down allegations of Russian interference in the British election campaign, which he has even described as “foolishness”.

“Oh, don’t talk nonsense,” Farage said in statements to Sky News when questioned by an investigation by Australian public television ABC into five Facebook pages with a pro-Russian narrative and that have supported Farage’s Reform party, which they even described as “the people’s champion.” “Oh, Russian bots are involved (…). It is a lie from Russia,” he added.

Farage has maintained a controversial stance on the war in Ukraine. “We have caused this war. It is obviously his fault. He has used what we have done as an excuse,” he said in May. This Sunday on Sky News he stated that the Russian president, Vladimir Putin is a “very, very dangerous” man.
