The Patriotic Front, which brings together nearly 30 parties and civil society organizations in Burkina Faso, has denounced that the military junta established after the January coup “leads the country to a dead end” and has denounced the deterioration of security in the country.
The coordinator of the coalition, Bitiou Germain Nama, has pointed out that “the regime of the Patriotic Movement for Salvation and Restoration (MPSR) –the official name of the junta– is getting bogged down and leading the country to a dead end”, according to picked up by the Burkinabe news portal Actualité.
Thus, he has asked the population to mobilize for a “legitimate and sovereign” political transition, while asking the authorities to strengthen the fight against terrorism and efforts to rebuild peace.
“The political management of the terrorist crisis, based on state lies, manipulation, blackmail and corruption, is characterized by a lack of political strategy,” Nama lamented, as reported by Radio France Internationale.
Insecurity led the leader of the Burkina Faso military junta, Paul-Henri Sandaogo Damiba, to announce on Monday the dismissal of Defense Minister Barthémey Simporé. After that, he approved a decree naming himself for the position.
Burkina Faso has generally experienced a significant increase in insecurity since 2015, leading to a wave of internally displaced persons and refugees to other countries in the region.
The attacks, the work of both the Al Qaeda branch and the Islamic State branch in the region, have also contributed to increasing inter-community violence and have caused self-defense groups to flourish, to which the Burkinabe government has added ‘volunteers ‘ to help in the fight against terrorism.
