July 12 (EUROPA PRESS) –
At least one civilian was killed on Wednesday in an attack by unidentified gunmen against a Pakistan Army cantonment in the western province of Balochistan, authorities have confirmed.
The Zhob district commissioner, Azim Kakar, has indicated that the fatality is a woman who was caught in the crossfire during the clashes, which also left five civilians injured and five attackers killed.
Likewise, he has stated that “nothing can be said about the number of attackers” and has stressed that the authorities are “on alert” after the attack, without any claim of responsibility for the moment, according to the Pakistani newspaper ‘Dawn ‘.
Since the 2000s, the region has had the presence of Baloch guerrillas seeking independence or at least greater autonomy for the region, in which extremist Sunni groups also operate, some of them with ties to Al Qaeda and the Islamic State.
