A capuchin monkey accidentally called 911 and the police responded

() — A capuchin monkey named Route showed California police the true meaning of “cuteness” when he accidentally called 911.

The San Luis Obispo County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call that went offline last Saturday, according to a Facebook post. The operators received no response when they tried to return the call, so they dispatched agents to investigate.

The police arrived at the offices of Conservation Ambassadors, also known as Zoo to You, in Paso Robles, California. But none of the staff members had made the call, the sheriff’s office said in its Facebook post.

“Then everyone realized…it must have been Route the capuchin monkey,” the office wrote.

Staff guessed that Route, a capuchin monkey, likely took the zoo’s cell phone from a golf cart.

“We were told that capuchin monkeys are very curious and will grab anything and just start pressing buttons,” officials said.

“And that’s what Route did…it just so happened to be at the right combination of numbers to call us.”

The zoo also commented on the monkey’s accidental phone call.

“Let this serve as an educational lesson that monkeys are NOT animals to be kept as pets!” said the zoo on Facebook. Conservation Ambassadors provide a home for injured and abandoned wildlife. “They are so curious that you never know what can happen!”

Capuchin monkeys are small and intelligent primates, weighing between 1.30 and 4 kilograms. according to the non-profit environmental organization Rainforest Alliance. South American monkeys are known for being intelligent and easy to train, which makes them popular as pets.
