A 12-year-old boy has died and two other minors have died have been injured this Tuesday in a shooting at a school in the city of Vantaa, in southern Finland. The author, also a minor, has already been arrested by the Finnish police.
The school that suffered the attack has 800 students and 90 workersaccording to the local press.
The shooting occurred shortly after 9:00 a.m. local time (6:00 GMT) at the Viertola school, a few kilometers from the Helsinki-Vantaa airport, a school where nearly 800 students between seven and sixteen years old study and work 90 employees.
The authorities moved a dozen people to the scene police cars and ambulances and they alerted citizens to avoid traveling through the school area and not leave their homes until further notice, according to local media.
Shortly after 10:00 local time (7:00 GMT), the Police announced that there had been arrested to the shooting suspect, who apparently is a student at that school between twelve and thirteen years old.
The deceased child was taken to hospital with injuries but has ultimately died. The other two children are hospitalized.
In the last two decades there have been Finland several indiscriminate shootings with firearms that have caused dozens of victims, including two massacres in two educational centers perpetrated by two young people who killed a total of 18 people before committing suicide.
