Putin arrives in Tehran to meet with his counterparts from Iran and Turkey

Russian President Vladimir Putin arrived in Iran on Tuesday for an official trip to meet with his Iranian and Turkish counterparts, Ebrahim Raisi and Recep Tayyip Erdogan, respectively, in his first visit to a country outside the former Soviet Union since the start of the war in Ukraine.

Putin has arrived at the airport in the capital, Tehran, from where he will travel to hold meetings with the aforementioned leaders –in the framework of the Astana process on Syria– and with the Supreme Leader of Iran, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, according to informed the Iranian television network Press TV.

The Russian president made a trip to Tajijistan at the end of June, the first abroad since the beginning of the invasion of Ukraine, unleashed on February 24, days after Putin himself recognized the independence of the self-proclaimed republics of Donetsk and Lugansk. (East).


Erdogan arrived in Tehran on Monday and during the day on Tuesday he has already held a meeting with Khamenei. Both leaders are scheduled to hold bilateral meetings with senior Iranian officials, after which they will also hold a trilateral meeting to discuss the war in Syria and the situation in the region.
