They announce funding opportunities to study and research in Germany

The German Academic Exchange Service held an informative talk for researchers at our University, which included the presentation of doctoral, research and teaching scholarship programs. The activity was coordinated by the Department of International and Inter-University Relations (DRII), of the Vice-Rector for Links with the Environment.

Last Tuesday, July 18, the informative talk “Studying and researching in Germany” was held, jointly coordinated by the Department of International and Inter-University Relations (DRII) of the University of Santiago de Chile, and the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD for its acronym in English). The activity took place in the auditorium of the Rector Eduardo Morales Santos Research Building.

The DAAD is a body dedicated to promoting exchange between German universities and world universities. From this organization, the studio advisors Claudia Rodríguez and Melanie Magenschab were in charge of the presentation.

The director of the DRII, Fernando Olmos Galleguillos, highlighted the close inter-institutional relationship between Usach and the DAAD, and stressed that our Campus has a relevant number of agreements with Germany. “It is the third preferred partner in number of agreements and flow of students and academics, therefore, it gives us the confidence that we can do many more things. In fact, there are currently three other extensive agreements with German universities in the process of being signed”, he said.

The DAAD presentation included a brief introduction about their organization, the research landscape in Germany and existing scholarship programs in doctoral, research and teaching. In turn, they highlighted the 10 main reasons for doing research in Germany: variety, cost, international recognition, language, global environment, scholarships, quality, infrastructure, flexibility and the advantages of being in Europe.

In terms of scholarships, the DAAD advisors mentioned different alternatives, among which, at the doctoral level, the DAAD/Becas Chile Scholarship stands out, co-financed with ANID to carry out a doctorate in any discipline with financing for a maximum of 4 years. And the Research Scholarship: Doctorate in Germany, to begin or continue doctoral studies in any discipline, with funding for a maximum of 4 years.

In research and teaching, some of the alternatives presented were the Stays for teachers and researchers (research stays from 1 to 3 months in universities or research centers) and the Bilateral Exchange (with a duration of 14 days to 3 months).
