Unions and citizens marched on July 19 in various cities in Peru and in Lima, where eight were injured, to once again demand the early elections and the resignation of President Dina Boluarte.

More than 20,000 people, according to official figures, mobilized this Wednesday in 19 of Peru’s 24 regions, including Lima, during the strike called to demand the resignation of President Dina Boluarte, who has 80% disapproval. The strike was partially complied with in Lima, but it was forceful in Andean regions.
They also demand the closure of the right-wing controlled Congress, the advancement of general elections, justice for the 49 people shot dead by security forces during the protests of the previous months and a referendum for a Constituent Assembly.

In Lima, thousands of people mobilized through the streets of the city center. In front of the Congress there were clashes between demonstrators and police who threw tear gas canisters to get them away from that area.
In the Andean city of Huancavelica, the police fired tear gas at the demonstrators gathered in the main square and they tried to burn down the Prefecture.
Some roads were blocked. In the rest of the country the mobilizations passed peacefully.
The authorities reported that there were six detainees and eight injured, including a journalist.
