Ten Interesting Facts About Comic-Con

The world of comics comes together for three days in San Diego, California, to hold the biggest convention of its kind: Comic-Con, which opened more than half a century ago and continues to hold sway among fans.

Many come to San Diego to meet their favorite superheroes, expand comic book collections, buy and sell relics, and meet the hottest writers and illustrators.

The first edition was in 1970 and its impact has grown, becoming the largest comic book convention in the world, according to the organizers. From a few dozen attendees in the first editions, there are already more than 130,000 people who arrive each year.

It is an event that does not distinguish between ages. Proof of them is Christopher Canolli, known in the community as Dude Vather, who is the oldest ‘cosplayer’ to participate in the Comic-Con convention. He was there for the first time 50 years ago and was attending college by then. He is now 76 years old and enjoys it with equal enthusiasm.

Sergio Godoy, a 52-year-old San Diego-based actor and marketer who was dressed as Superman, said confidently that Comic-Com 2023 “is going to be a huge success because all our favorite heroes are going to be here.”

Here are ten interesting facts about the event:

• 1-The first edition of Comic-Con was held from August 1 to 3, 1970 at the Golden State Hotel in San Diego, California.
• 2-The convention was originally called the Golden State Comic Book Convention
• 3-In 1972, the convention changed its name to San Diego Comic-Con International.
• 4-Comic-Con is the largest comic book convention in the world.
• 5-A Comic-Con is attended by more than 130,000 people each year.

This year, a particularity took the famous event, and that is that the Universal and Marvel studios decided to cancel their participation due to the strikes of writers and actors that shake Hollywood and that have paralyzed the film industry.

Several show and movie panels have already been canceled and the strike notice prohibits SAG-AFTRA members from promoting any work done by the striking companies, even if those projects were done a long time ago.
