The Polish Ministry of Defense has announced a new deployment of troops to reinforce the border with Belarus, which in recent weeks has been receiving the mercenaries of the Wagner Group after falling out of favor with its boss, Yevgeni Prigozhin, in the Kremlin, which has aroused concern in Warsaw.
Wagner’s presence in Belarus does not happen to be circumstantial while waiting for his men to set course for the different operations they have in various African countries, but rather they are carrying out joint maneuvers with the Belarusian Armed Forces.
“The joint exercises of the Belarusian Army and the Wagner Group are undoubtedly a provocation,” said the secretary of the Security Committee of the Polish Government, Zbigniew Hoffmann, according to the PAP news agency.
Since Wagner’s failed rebellion at the end of June, about a dozen convoys have moved to Belarus as part of the deal with the Kremlin, which has given the mercenaries the option of leaving Ukraine without charge, or staying but under Army orders.
After the intervention of the Belarusian president, Alexander Lukashenko, the authorities set up a first camp to accommodate the mercenaries arriving from Ukraine in the town of Tsel in the Mogilev region, with the capacity to house almost 9,000 people.
Currently, Wagner’s men are installed in the Brestski training camp, which is located just 50 kilometers from the border with Poland, with which it shares more than 400 kilometers.
