The Pakistani Army denounces the existence of "sanctuaries" of the Pakistani Taliban in Afghanistan

July 17 (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Chief of Staff of the Pakistan Armed Forces, General Asim Munir, has denounced the presence on Afghan soil of “sanctuaries” of Tehrik e Taliban Pakistan (TTP), the Pakistani Taliban, and has pointed them out as one of the threats for the security of Pakistan.

“Sanctuaries and freedom of action for terrorists from the illegal TTP group and other such groups in a neighboring country and having the latest weapons is one of the biggest threats to Pakistan’s security,” Munir said from Rawalpindi.

Munir has also highlighted the need to maintain operational readiness and training as “key” aspects of the “professionalism” of the Pakistani Armed Forces. “We must always be prepared to defend ourselves against any threat to our national security”, he snapped.

“The involvement of Afghan citizens in terrorist attacks in Pakistan is another worrying issue that must be addressed,” added the Pakistani Army, which has described these acts as “intolerable”.

Pakistan has warned that it will respond “effectively” after the death of twelve soldiers in two attacks attributed to the Pakistani Taliban and has urged the Afghan Taliban government not to allow its territory to be used to carry out terrorist attacks against any country.
