At least four people have died and an unknown number have disappeared due to the capsizing of a boat on Saturday in the Congo River as it passes through the Congolese province of Mongala, located in the north of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC).
Sources cited by the Radio Okapi station have indicated that the boat, which was also carrying merchandise, sank about 40 kilometers from the town of Bumba when it was heading towards the city of Ndobo.
The first investigations suggest that the cause would have been the poor condition of the boat and being overweight, although the authorities have not yet confirmed the conclusions of the investigations.
The event takes place two years after the death of about 140 people in October 2021 after the sinking of another boat in the Congo River, an important waterway used for the transport of people and goods in the African country.
