Biden commits 1.45 billion euros a year in assistance to Jordan from 2023 to 2029

The president of the United States, Joe Biden, and the Jordanian monarch, Abdullah II, announced this Saturday a memorandum of understanding by which Washington agrees to support the provision of 1,450 million euros in “bilateral international aid” to Jordan. from 2023 to 2029.

The document “designed to address Jordan’s extraordinary needs, supports King Abdullah II’s economic reform program and ensures the long-term strength of the close partnership between the United States and Jordan.”

“Jordan can serve as an important center for cooperation and investment in infrastructure, energy, water, food security and climate,” the United States believes.

Both leaders, meeting in the Saudi city of Jeddah before the summit of the extended format of the Gulf Cooperation Council, have also addressed the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and Jordan’s role as custodian of the Esplanade of the Jerusalem Mosques, known by the Jews like the Temple Mount.


“The two leaders reaffirmed their commitment to continue working for a just, lasting and comprehensive peace between Israel and the Palestinians on the basis of the two-state solution,” according to the conclusions of the meeting published by the White House.

Both stressed the need to maintain the historical ‘status quo’ in Jerusalem’s holy sites, and the president underlined “the key role of the Hashemite Custody in this regard,” the statement added.
