July 14 (EUROPA PRESS) –
The Pakistani Army General Staff is “very concerned about the freedom of action” enjoyed by the Pakistani Taliban in Afghanistan thanks to the “safe havens” that exist in the neighboring country, despite the fact that the Afghan Taliban regime assures that the activity of this group within its borders is absolutely restricted.
The statements come from the same chief of the General Staff, General Asim Munir, who this Friday visited a barracks in Quetta to receive information about the militia attack that cost the lives of nine soldiers last Wednesday at a base in Balochistan, the usual territory of Tehrik e Taliban (TTP or Pakistani Taliban) operations, border with Afghanistan.
A civilian was also killed in the attack and five others were injured.
“It would be expected that the Afghan government in office would not allow the use of its land to perpetrate terrorist attacks against any country, in accordance with the commitments made in the Doha agreement,” the general said in relation to the negotiations between the Taliban and the international community in the Qatari capital before the fundamentalist movement decided to take Afghanistan by force almost two years ago.
The general has even assured that Afghan citizens are involved in “incidents of terrorism that are perpetrated in Pakistan”; some “intolerable attacks that are going to provoke an effective response from the Pakistani security forces,” according to the statement collected by the newspaper ‘Dawn’.
“The operations against terrorism will continue in force and the Pakistani forces will not rest until they uproot terrorism from our country,” the general assured.
