Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin signed an order this Friday to close the Polish consular agency in the city of Smolensk in response to Warsaw’s “anti-Russian actions” during the invasion of Ukraine.
“I have accepted the proposal of the Russian Foreign Ministry to close the Polish consular agency in the city of Smolensk,” he indicated in a document to which the Russian agency TASS has had access.
The Government has explained that the measure is part of the “illegal seizure of Russian diplomatic property on Polish territory and the significant reduction of the Russian diplomatic presence in Poland.”
“The order makes it possible to restore the parity of the consular offices of Russia in Poland and of Poland and Russia,” the text collects.
The Polish authorities, for their part, have assured that they will “respond” to Russia’s actions of closing its diplomatic missions in the country. The Prime Minister, Mateusz Morawiecki, has indicated that these are “aggressive actions”. “If they start to liquidate our offices we will respond in the same way,” he said.
