July 16 (EUROPA PRESS) –
One person has lost his life in a forest fire declared in the Larache region, in northern Morocco, which is also suffering from several serious fires similar to those that devastate southern Europe in the midst of a heat wave.
Local authorities have located a body with signs of multiple burns, according to sources cited by the Hespress news portal.
The fire broke out in the Al Mbeka area last Wednesday and has forced the evacuation of residents and livestock from the area. It has finally been controlled this Friday.
The director of the Moroccan Center for Human Rights, Abdelilá el Judari, has assured that the flames have destroyed thousands of olive trees, other crops and have claimed the lives of hundreds of animals. El Judari believes that “it cannot be ruled out” that it is an arson attack.
There is also an active fire in Tahla, in the province of Taza, where more than 400 Civil Protection, Auxiliary Forces and Gendarmerie personnel have been mobilized. Other fires have devastated large areas of the Uezán province amid a heat wave of between 42 and 46 degrees and strong winds.
